Lack of Major Marketing Partner, Recent Accidents Sideline Lewis and Lester for DP Finale

POWELL, Ohio, September 5, 2008 - In a sign of the times and as a result of a string of incidents, Southard Motorsports regretfully announces that it will forgo the 2008 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype (DP) season-finale at Miller Motorsports Park. Owners Steve and Martha Southard (Powell, Ohio) made the decision to put the team on hiatus when efforts to bring a major marketing partner to the No. 3 Southard Motorsports Lexus-Riley failed to bear fruit. The issue was further exasperated by several costly accidents that stretched the team's budget and ended strong, top-10 runs. The Powell, Ohio-based program will use the additional time and savings from missing the season-ending Discount Tire Sunchaser in Salt Lake City to continue to pursue marketing partners for the 2009 Rolex Sports Car Series which opens in January with the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Lester and Lewis OK After Support Series Accident but Refused Medical Clearance, Lester Drives Alone

MILLVILLE, N.J., September 1, 2008 - New Jersey proved to be anything but the "Garden State" for Southard Motorsports. Sunday's Supercar Life 250 - debut event for the just completed New Jersey Motorsports Park - was an exasperating experiment in track development for the team and its drivers Shane Lewis (Jupiter, Fla.) and Bill Lester (Atlanta). The Steve and Martha Southard (Powell, Ohio) owned operation found itself at the center of two separate but equally destructive scenarios during the penultimate round of the 2008 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype (DP) season. In the first, Lewis was involved in a spectacular accident during the KONI Challenge ST race earlier in the day when his car was struck from behind on a re-start. Lewis suffered no injuries or concussion in the accident but officials erred on the side of caution and refused medical clearance for him to drive in the DP event.
